Each month I’ll share the hero beauty products I love, not just the ones I’ve tried & tested, but the ones I really reach for time and time again.
A great serum is an essential step in my daily skincare routine, but you can’t be lazy with them. I was taught by A-List facialist Su-Man, that serums only really work if you ‘lock them in’, a bit like a sandwich. Apply your serum after cleansing and before moisturising to lock it in, this allows the active ingredients to properly penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin in order to fully reap all the replenishing and anti-aging benefits.
Packed with five powerful hyaluronic acids, this powerful serum has taken inspo from aesthetic injectables to give skin a plumped, youthful appearance. Hydrating and smoothing, it fights against the signs of ageing and leaves skin luminous.
Farmacy Beauty 1% Vitamin A Retinol Serum, £48, SpaceNK
Fight those fine lines and wrinkles with this hardworking serum that’s formulated with the hero ingredient, retinol. Penetrating the skin, it reduces wrinkles, boosts elasticity and locks in hydration.
If wrinkles are your key skin concern, then this serum is well worth the investment. Enriched with retinoid, hyaluronic acid and the Clinique’s peptide complex, it focuses on wrinkles and fine lines, smoothing out skin for a more youthful appearance.
Clarins Double Serum is a powerful treat. It works to boost and reactivate the five vital skin functions to bring back younger looking skin. These functions are hydration, nutrition, oxygenation (to give a healthy glow), protection and re-generation! The results? Wrinkles and fine lines are smoothed, skins elasticity is improved and pores are reduced in size! Perfect!

Designed with stylists in mind, professional haircare specialists Neäl & Wølf have launched a rich and intensely conditioning HYDRATE Moisture Mask designed to transform the look and feel of dry hair in just one use.
The launch comes following their Dry Shampoo debut earlier this year which was in such high demand it sold out.
Neal
The HYDRATE Moisture Mask will revive your client’s dry summer hair with a special blend of ingredients that help to retain and restore moisture. The ingredients include shea butter, argan, avocado, jojoba and crambe abyssinica seed oils that deliver an instant transformation in texture and appearance leaving hair shiny, healthy and manageable.
Neäl & Wølf advises on a few different ways for application:
The HYDRATE Moisture Mask works as the perfect hydration treatment to help restore your client’s dehydrated locks. Apply a small amount to the mids and ends of clean damp hair, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse and style the hair as desired.
The mask can also be used as an intense in-salon advanced shine treatment. Apply the HYDRATE Moisture Mask to one section of hair at a time starting from the mid lengths and working down towards the ends. Use a wide toothed comb to spread evenly through the hair and leave on for an hour. Rinse the hair thoroughly with lukewarm water afterwards, making sure to remove all traces of the mask from the client’s hair. After rinsing style the client’s hair as required.
Clients can also use the HYDRATE Moisture Mask at home as an overnight treatment, using the steps mentioned above simply gather the hair into a loose bun or braid and secure with a silk scrunchie to keep the mask contained and protected during the overnight treatment. In the morning, advise to rinse the mask off thoroughly with lukewarm water and style.
Neäl & Wølf’s HYDRATE Moisture Mask is also sulphate, paraben, DEA and TEA free, suitable for all hair types and colours, and vegan friendly.
Salon price: 150ml (£10.50), 500ml (£22.95)

THE FACILITIES34 Sky Villas and Ocean Lofts | Restaurant | Bar | Infinity Pool with sun loungers and umbrellas | Games Room | Spa | GymTHE ACCOMMODATION
Kata Rocks resort is made up of 34 Sky Villas and Ocean Lofts – ranging from a sprawling four-bed Sky Villa penthouses to a one-bed Ocean Loft (a honeymooner’s favourite so I’m told); all of which boast a west facing sunset view looking out from each villas’ private infinity pool, each designed to offer maximum privacy. We stayed in a 2-bedroom Sky Villa, which for two people was enough to almost get lost. Both double bedrooms were spacious with ample wardrobe space, touch button lighting and air-con, the comfiest beds known to man, and large luxurious en-suite bathrooms with built-in TV. The open-plan living areas have huge sofas, flat screen TV and music sound system for both indoors and on the terrace. The kitchens are kitted out with high tech appliances from brands such as Snaidero and Siemens. A full-sized fridge was home to a well stocked bar – the concept of ‘mini-bar’ is an understatement here. It’s no wonder many guests choose to spend a lot of their time in the villa as there really is no reason to step outside your door at any point in your stay if you don’t feel inclined to do so. In-villa dining is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner – there’s even a speciality lobster menu should the mood take you. The attention to detail in terms of gadgets is fantastic – right down to the lighting keypad situated next to the beds; you can switch on bathroom lights in the night before you attempt to scramble around in the dark, and be led by dimmed under lighting straight to the bathroom door.THE SPA
It’s not hard to see why Infinite Spa is winner of the World Luxury Spa Awards, with an extensive range of treatments ranging from pre and post sun treatments to detox and cleansing and holistic massage rituals incorporating the latest spa massage technology. The eight luxury treatment rooms and suites are individually designed around specific treatments; a traditional Thai spa massage treatment room, two couples rooms complete with his and hers bathtubs, chromotherapy room for coloured light therapy, a waterbed room featuring an Italian-made Iso-Benessere – a state of the art water massage bed for supporting spinal integration, and the new gem in the spa’s crown; the high-tech Metronap rest pod – designed to aid sound sleep. We opted to try the Ku-Nye Massage; a traditional Tibetan massage, which was 60 minutes of pure bliss.THE DRINKING & DININGThe Clubhouse restaurant offers a menu of Mediterranean and Thai dishes. The pool-side ‘Sunset Bar’ has a super cocktail menu and boasts no less than 24 wines by the glass. As many guests tend to dine and relax in their villa, there is a pretty tranquil atmosphere later in the evenings around the bar. One of the specialty experiences on offer is’ Dinner On The Rocks’, which we just had to try, and as the name suggests, this private dining experience is literally set up on the secluded beach rocks – and to give ultimate exclusivity there is only one secluded table available per night (weather permitting – due to close proximity of the waves once the wind picks up!) complete with pretty lanterns making a private path, white table cloth, personal waiters for the evening (Henry was amazing!) and all timed perfectly so you are seated on cue to watch the sunset. We enjoyed a variety of cocktails and a 5 course traditional Thai menu – which was nothing short of a treat for the taste-buds (note – drink fast or avoid anything in a Martini glass if the weather is breezy!).
THE HIGHLIGHTSDue to the way the villas are built into the rocks there are some seriously steep pathways, but fear not as the resort’s fleet of golf-buggy style carts are always on hand to ferry you to and from your villa, to the pool, the bar, the spa, and even into town. The villa infinity pools are a great size (minimum 7 metres) and offer perfect panoramic views of the sunset each evening. The staff are all true professionals, without being over-fussy they will make sure you have everything you need at all times with a genuine smile – it’s clear to see real job satisfaction here.‘Dinner on the Rocks’ is a must – perfect for a romantic date night, and if on honeymoon – an essential experience!

Doxford Hall is a grand 200-year-old country mansion situated in one of England’s finest counties, Northumberland. With an abundance of beauty spots, land-marks and coastal countryside, it’s no wonder the Northumbrian coastline had previously been voted ‘Holiday Destination of the Year ‘in the BBC Countryfile Awards. This is the only hotel in the county to be awarded the AA’s most enviable rating of four red stars. Sympathetically renovated and restored, this Georgian building is set in ten acres of private estate and features the impressive, super-sized, Yew Tree Maze planted by local school children in the year 2000. You can enjoy and walk around the maze which takes around 25 minutes to complete.
There are 31 bedrooms over nine categories, including two lovely ground floor rooms (which are great for disabled access), also the boutique-style Coach rooms featuring exposed brickwork and beams, Deluxe suites with a contemporary vibe, and the decedent Four-Poster suites. All rooms are decked out with bespoke furniture, and some with free-standing baths. Some rooms are allowed to host our doggie pals too. Also situated in the hotel’s estate grounds are two Grade ll listed and self-catering cottages; Head Gardner’s House (accommodates six people) and the North Lodge (accommodates five peoples) both of which are ideal for family breaks.
We were staying in the rather grand, Four-Poster room which had sweeping views of the manicured gardens. The large bathroom had Molton Brown toiletries (a firm Groomed & Glossy favourite!). Bath robes and slippers added to the super-luxe hotel feel.
After dropping our bags in the room, we sat down to enjoy a cosy Festive Afternoon Tea (which ran through the Christmas period) in the Grand Georgian room which had comfy couches and roaring open fires. We relaxed and enjoyed a festive afternoon tea of mini sandwiches including beef and caramelised onion chutney, turkey and cranberry, stilton and white grapes, and smoked salmon and cream cheese. The sumptuous sweet bites of dark chocolate and orange tart, pumpkin spiced latte pannacotta, mini mince pie, pistachio macaroon with vanilla cream, homemade cranberry & orange and all butter scones with preserve and clotted cream were AMAZING, and of course all these treats MUST be accompanied by copious servings of the finest English Breakfast tea.
After donning our robe and slippers we headed to the hotel’s Ystara Spa, where we were greeted by a lovely receptionist who confirmed our treatments and sat us in the waiting area. The spa compromised of many treatment rooms, swimming pool, spa baths, steam room and sauna. The spa treatment menu had some serious contenders to offer the ultimate in relaxation therapy and after many hours prior to my visit, mulling these over (yes HOURS – spa treatment selecting is a serious task, not to be rushed), I had opted for the Warm Bamboo Anma treatment (a whopping 90 mins); a massage therapy which uses heated bamboo to tackle cellulite, tone muscles and detoxify the organs.
I was taken to my treatment room which was cosy and warm where I was given a consultation. The therapist started with the back massage using a herbal poultice that helps melt away tension followed by the warm bamboo rolled over specific areas incorporating the Ystara Sculpting oil to detoxify and fight cellulite. This was a very relaxing full body treatment that left me feeling calm, sleepy, and ready for a chill in the pool and sauna. My friend, not wanting to be left out of all the pampering fun, choose a ZenSpa pedicure followed by a mini manicure; this refreshed her hands and feet leaving her relaxed and rejuvenated by her super fabulous therapist.
For dinner we visited the George Runciman restaurant; a grand but also cosy dining room set up with crisp white ‘linen-ed’ tables and flickering candle light. We enjoyed, starters of duck liver, smoked bacon & pistachio parfait with textures of cherries, toasted smoked bacon brioche. This was followed by a perfect pan roasted chicken breast with a side order of rosemary & rock salt hand cut chips, smoked garlic pomme puree, heirloom carrots, and English parma ham chard. For dessert, we opted for the dark chocolate pave-salted chocolate brittle with Chainbrige honey ice cream and toffee popcorn. All three course were nothing less than amazing, and left us wanted to book a future return to the restaurant to samples every other course, which is bound to be just as good.
After a relaxing night of slumber, we headed downstairs for breakfast, again served in the lovely Georgian Runicman restaurant.
There was a good selection of sweet and savoury pastries, cereal, stewed figs and prunes, fruit compote, continental cheeses’, seasonal fruit, fresh orange & apple juice, yoghurts and preserves.
The hot options were free range eggs (fried, poached, scrambled or boiled), a traditional English breakfast of cured back bacon, locally sourced sausages, plum tomatoes, flat mushrooms, locally sourced black pudding, fried bread, and baked beans. You can also opt for Swallows of Seahouseskippers, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and my most favourite breakfast option; Eggs Benedict – which was delicious.
Sofia Richie opted for the perfect @chanel.beauty peachy hue lip colour on her wedding day and we LOVE it! Richie’s lip was coloured with shade 928 Pink Delight.
We visited Velassaru, Maldives for a spot of long-haul luxury. Our Stay was hosted by Velassaru, all words and views are our own.
Velassaru is situated on the South Male Atoll and is just a 25 minute speed boat ride from Male airport. The Maldives has hit the top spot for most coveted travel destination for several years now, which is no surprise with its crystal clear waters, white beaches and a luxuriously laid back, tropical vibe. The iconic over water villas snake out over the Indian Ocean via their wooden walkways providing the ultimate rooms with a view, and this is certainly one destination you can get snap happy with and there is most certainly no filter needed. There are many islands and resorts to choose from but if you are looking for a luxury yet relaxed retreat with excellent customer service, the idyllic Velassaru resort is for you.
Even before we arrived we had heard great things of Velassaru and were met off the boat on arrival by staff clad in smart white uniforms and a ready smile. After checking in, we were whisked off in a golf buggy to our accommodation. As we travelled along the palm tree lined, sandy road, we noticed how well kept the island was, and the attention to detail was meticulous – even going as far as staff spraying the plants and palms daily to ensure mosquitos were non-existent. To give an insight to how intimate the island is, you can take a beach walk around it in 15 minutes, and throughout your stay, flip flops or bare feet are the order of the day.

There is a good selection of accommodation options to suit different budgets (ten types in total), from beach bungalows to overwater villas and suites. We stayed in a water bungalow with pool, and while the beach villas are a popular choice at Velassaru, the over-water bungalows with private pool are indeed superior. Each water bungalow features a private ocean view deck with pool and private steps leading straight into the sea, where you can swim and snorkel; there is an abundance of brightly coloured fish and even small sharks (friendly species of course!). Sumptuously squashy sun loungers with plush-cushions sat on our terrace with small tables to place essential drinks from the mini bar.
Even the bathroom can be classed as a room with a view as the large free standing bath sits next to a huge window overlooking the sea. There is also a large walk in shower and luxe toiletries by L’Occitane.
The bungalow lounge areas have floor to ceiling windows offering epic views over the ocean and the chic yet cosy living space offers chunky wicker style sofas stacked with plump turquoise cushions. The in-room entertainment includes a large flat screened Smart TV which has all the essential international channels, on demand films, and was a great source of information giving details of the hotels entertainment programme, dining options, personal messages, and a running tab displaying our daily room bill, which is great to keeps tabs on. Beach bags, slippers and dressing gowns are provided, along with brollies and rain mac’s for those tropical showers. I must say though, the weather was glorious for our entire stay.
There are a total of eight bars and restaurants on the island inclusing TEPPANYAKI (Japanese), TURQUOISE (International cuisine), VELA (international and seafood). The Chill Bar sits on the beach, directly facing the sea, and offers comfy seats drinks and food available with happy hour taking place daily. Staff were attentive and friendly and were soon calling us by our names so we felt at home straight away.
Evening entertainment at the Fen Bar is pretty laid back with inside and outside seating area, sandbags, hammocks and Balinese beds well placed on the sand. This is a chilled social spot which is great for pre-dinner drinks.
This isn’t just a destination for relaxing, there are plenty of sport and fitness facilities such as fitness centre, dive centre, tennis courts, water sports, complementary snorkelling equipment with guided tours, and excursions including sunset cruises, dolphin discovery, and trips with their resident marine biologists.
Teppanyaki
The signature restaurant here is Sands, a fine-dining, open air venue (on the sand!), with beautiful views of the beach and sea beyond. There are tables situated on the sand and also a small number of private dining pavilions accessed via private walkways and strategically placed to offer an intimate dining experience. Our waiting staff continued the high level of slick and friendly customer service that we consistency experienced here.
The food at Sands was outstanding. We started with seared scallops, caramelised fennel purée with citrus foam, and enjoyed main courses of crispy Blue crab with cream seafood risotto and my husband had prime beef tenderloin with choice of curry leaf, spicy garlic sauce. The desserts were no less than amazing; tropical island lime mousse with almond crumble, mango sorbet and honey comb ice cream. The whole dining experience was one not to be missed.
The Spa was the set on stilts with overwater pavilions. There are ten overwater treatment rooms and the treatment menu is extensive. Complementary yoga classes are held here three times a week.

A must do trip while you are staying at Velassaru is the Dolphin Discovery Cruise. We headed out into open water at sunset with our fellow passengers and not log into the cruise a pod of Dolphins glided through the water, jumping out of the water in duos and trios, and not too long after they were joined by whales.

This was a brilliant trip and teamed with the sunset, energetic staff, a great group of fellow Valassaru guests, one definitely to be recommended and repeated.
