Experiencing Sorrento beyond the beaches with Citalia

Normally famed for its beaches and clifftop houses, Easter is a special time to see Sorrento, when visitors can witness the religious traditions dating back to the 14th century. From Holy Thursday, leading up to Easter Sunday, processions take place throughout several towns on the Sorrentine Peninsula.
The main processions in Sorrento are the Procession of Holy Thursday, also known as the White Procession, and the Procession of Good Friday, or the Black Procession. The White Procession takes place from 3am to dawn, with members of the Confraternity walking from the Church of Annuziata through the city, dressed in white robes and cowls. Streetlights are turned off, with the only light coming from the torches held by some of the participants. The procession represents the Virgin Mary wandering in search of the Son. The Black Procession is similar, with participants wearing black robes and hoods as spectators watch in silence.
Citalia offers a six-night stay at Grand Hotel President from £1,189 per person, based on two people sharing. The price includes return flights from London Gatwick, breakfast daily and private transfers. Based on 27 March 2024 departure.
